Our Approach To Recovery
Our approach is built around one idea: symptoms are signals, not the whole story.
Real recovery means understanding what's driving them and building the tools, support, and self-trust to move forward. Body, mind, relationships, identity - we work with all of it, because leaving any part out makes recovery incomplete.
Our Transform Pathway
Recovery isn't linear, but it does have a shape. Our signature 5-stage framework gives you a map - so you always know roughly where you are and what's next, at a pace that's right for you.
Stage 1: Tending the Ground - Building the safety and stability recovery needs to take root.
Stage 2: Reconnection - Nourishing your body and rebuilding trust with food.
Stage 3: Awareness and Alignment - Understanding what's really driving your eating disorder.
Stage 4: Nurturing Support - Building connection, boundaries, and support.
Stage 5: Self-Led Growth - Stepping into your next chapter with confidence.

Tikanga Māori Foundations
We hold deep respect for Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa, and this shapes how we practice with every client, not only those who identify as Māori.
Our work is grounded in:
-
Manaakitanga — caring for you with dignity, respect, and generosity
-
Rangatiratanga — supporting your right to lead your own recovery
We're also guided by Te Whare Tapa Whā, the Māori health model that sees wellbeing as five connected pillars: Taha Wairua (spiritual), Taha Hinengoro (mental/emotional), Taha Tinana (physical), Taha Whānau (family/social), and Whenua (connection to land and places of significance). For eating disorder recovery, this means we never treat just the physical symptoms — because lasting change touches all five areas.

Our Philosophy
We believe healing means treating the whole person - mind, body, and soul.
Your plan is built around your pace, your needs, and your values, because recovery was never meant to be one size fits all.
This shapes how we think about:
-
Therapy
-
Nutrition
-
Fitness
-
Recovery Coaching

How We Work
No single method can address something as complex as an eating disorder - so we don't rely on just one.
Our work brings together:
-
Evidence-based psychological therapy
-
Practical support with food and behaviour change
-
Treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions
-
Body image and exercise rehabilitation
-
Trauma-informed, nervous system-based care
-
Support to rebuild identity and meaning beyond the eating disorder
Because recovery isn't just about stopping behaviours - it's about rebuilding a life that feels meaningful, regulated, and free.
Therapies
Every client is different, so we don't rely on a single method. Our clinicians draw from a range of evidence-based therapies, and we build your plan collaboratively - shaped around what actually fits you.
Sophie, our registered counsellor, offers formal talk therapy. All of our clinicians also bring practical skills from these approaches into their coaching work:
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - Working with the thoughts and patterns that keep the eating disorder going
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) - Building skills to manage difficult emotions without turning to old behaviours
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - Learning to move toward what matters to you, even when things feel hard
-
Gestalt Therapy - Building awareness of what you're feeling and experiencing in the present moment
…Alongside other evidence-based approaches, chosen to suit you.

Practical Tools
Recovery isn't just about changing how you think - it has to hold up in real life. That's why we also work alongside you through the everyday moments that can be hardest to navigate:
-
Nutrition plans and nutrition therapy
-
Fitness plans and training sessions
-
Support through meals and snacks
-
Support with grocery shopping
-
Support with cooking at home
-
Support clothes shopping
…and whatever else comes up along the way.

Trauma Informed Care
Trauma and eating disorders are often deeply connected - so trauma-informed care isn't an add on for us, it's the foundation.
Every clinician on our team has extensive training in working alongside clients experiencing trauma, and this shapes how we show up with every single client, whether or not trauma is part of your story.

Safety
We create a space that feels physically and emotionally safe - through clear boundaries, predictability, and care taken to avoid anything that could re-traumatise you.
Peer Support
Recovery can feel like a lonely process. That's why our team includes recovered coaches - people who've walked this path themselves.
Talking with someone who truly understands can bring a sense of belonging, and hope that recovery is possible.

Collaboration and Mutuality
You're always part of the decision-making in your own treatment. This isn't just good practice - it helps restore a sense of control that trauma can take away.
Empowerment, Voice, and Choice
Your voice and your choices matter here. Having real say in your healing journey helps you regain a sense of agency - and we make a point of recognising the strengths and resources you already bring to your recovery, not just what needs fixing.

Cultural, Historical, and Gender Issues
Culture, history, and gender all shape how trauma is experienced - and we take care to recognise and respond to that, so your care actually fits your life.
