Community Guidelines
The safety of our community is something that we take very seriously at Transformed Therapy New Zealand, with that being said we have outlined our community guidelines below that we ask that you follow to keep yourself and others within the group safe
The Guidelines
Groups Are Confidential
There is an expectation of trust that group members will respect each other’s privacy. Keep all group members’ identity and group discussions and conversations confidential.
We encourage you to meet with members outside of group for community and support, but refrain from discussing what happened in group with other members who are not there as this is also a breach of trust. If you have questions, comments or concerns about a group member, or something said in the previous group that you feel needs to be addressed, do this during the next group meeting. If the matter is urgent, or you feel that another group member is in danger, reach out to the group leader/clinician for guidance.
If you make a personal connection with another group member or members and choose to give them your phone number and other contact information, you are doing so at your own risk and accept full responsibility for any consequences.
If you feel that your confidentiality has been breached by another member or members of the group, let your group leader/clinician know immediately and he/she/they will address the matter to help move toward a solution.
Be Mindful of What You Share
As there is no way of ensuring complete confidentiality, you should always be mindful when you are sharing in group.
However, groups work best when everyone is open and honest, so as the trust and respect between group members grow, you will find yourself and the other group members naturally opening up more.
Groups can quickly become a trusted support system for everyone involved.
Please also reframe from sharing triggering content such as:
Weight, numbers, calories, dieting, hospital stays, self-harm or suicide, drug and alcohol use etc
If you are unsure if the content may be triggering, please talk to one of our clinicians before sharing it within the group
Seek Support and/or Feedback
Always ask for support or feedback when bringing up a problem you are having.
This avoids people "dumping" a problem on the group without really asking for or wanting help, leaving the group feeling bad and/or unable to help.
Below are some examples of dumping statements and how they could be conveyed in a way that encourages group members to respond and be supportive.
Dumping: “I am just getting worse and I see no hope.”
Seeking feedback: “Does anyone have ideas for what to do when you feel like you are getting worse and losing hope?”
Dumping: “I want to lose weight and I don’t care if my eating disorder gets worse.”
Seeking Feedback: “I keep having thoughts about losing weight and know my eating disorder will get worse if I pursue that, I’d like to know what others did or might do in this situation?”
Dumping: “I hate my body and there is nothing anyone can do about it.”
Seeking Feedback: “I know body image stuff takes a while but I’m really having a hard time with my body and could use some ideas on how other people have dealt with this.”
Respect All Members of the Group
There might be some group members that you like more than others.
Respect each and every group member, regardless of how you might feel about them on a personal level. Your group leader will help guide any conflicts or tension that might arise between members.
If you feel that another group member is not treating you with respect, try to bring it up as calmly and kindly as possible in the group asking what you can do to help the situation.
